Cows and Biodynamics

There are a lot of people out there of the opinion that Biodynamic produce is better than organics. While they are happy to pay a little extra for the quality, they remain a little mystified about some of the processes.

We agree that, at first glance, it all seems a bit weird - but it works!

To give you an example…BD500 (one of the really important preparations used) is made by filling cow horns with cow manure! Seriously. We have stock piled approximately 1000 cow horns (from lactating cows) and every year, just before winter, the team heads out into the paddocks to collect a trailer full of manure. We then all sit around and stuff the manure into the horns. The horns are then buried for about 6 months. Then just before the weather warms up and the roots of the surrounding plants eat all our hard work, we dig the horns up and we have the most amazing, biologically rich BD500 (transformed cow dung). Bacteriological tests show that faecal matter in the BD500 disappeared while it was buried in the cow horn, whereas micro flora, humus-forming bacteria developed. 500 million aerobic bacteria per gram were calculated in the finished product).

Once we have this precious BD500, it is stored for a few months to stabilize and then, when the time is right, it is mixed with living water in a vital way and sprayed on to the earth. It’s like Homeopathics; it only needs about a drop ever 1_m. The prime function of BD500 is to promote root activity, especially the fine root hairs, to stimulate soil micro-life and increase beneficial growth. The results are amazing. If all that sounds strange wait until you read up about the cosmic and etheric energies that come into the equation. Seriously though, it really is amazing stuff and is based on comprehensive scientific studies, developed by Rudolf Steiner in the 1920’s.
