About Biodiversity

There are three essential components to biodiversity and they all must be in harmony for things to work well. They are, Flora, Fauna and all the microscopic life under the ground. It helps to look at the three components as a circle.

It starts with the wonderful little critters under the ground. They feed and nourish the plants in the ground; the plants then feed and nourish the animals above the ground. The animals then well… poo and nourish the critters under the ground. It’s the circle of life. The more variety in any of these areas (under the ground, plants on the ground and animals above the ground) the bigger the variety of nutrients. Even better, because not all plants and animals like the same things to eat, the greater the selection on the menu, the happier and healthier the whole environment is.

When you don’t have good biodiversity the whole chain simply breaks down and the quality of life force in our food and in our land gets depleted. You’re no doubt aware how many of the world’s animal species are now facing extinction. Well, it’s the same with plants and biological life under the ground. One of the major reasons we are facing this crisis, is the outdated practice of ‘mono culture’. The bottom line is - there are too many single crop or single species farms! It all links in to some of the really big issues humans have today.
